I sit amongst the masses and find nothing in common with them. I am treated with contempt when I approach a checkout counter. When I ask a simple question, I am given an argumentative response. These are the types of behaviors that you will also encounter if you choose to live outside of societal norms and trends.
I will not walk around dressed like an utter slob to gain the admiration of those who favor this normalized appearance. I will not engage in lengthy bouts of small talk to “tickle the fancy” of others when I gain nothing from such emptiness. It is this stupidity that has taken hold of society, imprisoning them in a state of ignorance.
This is not a short tale of “Woe is Me.” No. This is a tale of a “go-along to get-along” culture that I have not been a part of for many years. When you choose not to engage in a world full of hedonic treadmill-inducing emptiness, you too will find yourself on the outside looking in. Lately, I have been searching for a meaning to all of this madness. Regretfully, I have come up with nothing. Nihilism takes its’ hold, and its’ grasp is firm. I try to find purpose in anything, but it only escapes me in the end.
I see others laughing and carrying on as if they are inside a utopian dreamscape. Are they high from the latest designer drug? Reality awaits them. Does it not? Who are these people? Is this their true self or a mask they wear amongst others? I often ponder this as I can no longer hide my true self, nor do I choose to. Albeit I do treat others with great respect and in a friendly manner. When responded to with the smugness of others though, my disdain for the “normies” grows deeper. Why even act as if I’m interested in the superfluous? Why espouse political correctness when it is not factual? I don’t fear being canceled or threatened. I am not in a workplace environment where being politically correct is the rule of law.
In closing, I believe negative responses to those of us who look and operate differently from the “normies” of society are simply the inferiority complexes of others kicking into full throttle. When one has a high intellect, attractive appearance, and a friendly demeanor, it is indeed intimidating to those of the average lot. If you have been blessed with being different from the average citizen, fear not as you too will find comfort in the “Underground.” To those of you on the “mainland,” it may be time to step through the “looking glass” and see things for what they are including your own existence.
