“When you can’t change your situation, you must change yourself.”
– Kresley Cole
What a powerful quote. Recently, I have gone through what has been the hardest part of my life so far. Probably because I’m older and wiser. Quite possibly the most difficult barrier in this struggle was not being able to change my situation at the current moment. The mental anguish was unbearable at times. Trouble sleeping, flashbacks, and loss of purpose to name a few. Finding myself in a void with nothingness surrounding me. When your world view is so different than most, these times hit you even harder. Only I could pick myself up, regardless of others advice.
I wanted to put this quote up today because it was heavy on my heart. I have personally preached to others that perception is everything. “When you think you have lost everything, you must be thankful for what you do have!” Another quote by someone, I’m sure. This is what got me off my knees and back to my feet. We must be thankful for everything we do have. If we didn’t have it, we would wish for it also am I not right? Many around us have no place to stay, disabilities, chronic illness, and other burdens for the long-haul. True hardship!
I encourage you all to fall back on what you know in these times, such as hobbies, and staying busy in general. I myself, fell back on what I knew, routine. I will go as far as saying this website was quite literally resurrected from the tomb it had resided in for over a year. Rotting away, just a decomposing afterthought. Now, it is my voice coming back from the void. Every post has meaning and comes from a place of empathy. If the empathy didn’t exist, then it’s back to the darkness.
Think about the things you do have, not about what you have not. When it seems like all hope is lost your mindset creates your reality. Will you walk into the void, only to lose your way out with no ray of light to where you were before, or will you rise from the ashes like the Phoenix evolving into something stronger than you were?
To be positive in the face of negativity, to see good in even the worst of situations and to remember to live in the moment. I agree with your post as we are our only limitation in this world of endless possibilities. We need to remember that it is not our fate to choose the deck of cards we play with, but, it is our fate to play the hell out of that deck we were given and find peace and happiness in doing so!
