This post came to me as I was headed to of all places, McDonald’s. I know super healthy life choice there! Stay with me though. This location is on a well-traveled road where I live. As I approached, I noticed that the cars in the drive-through were all the way out to the entrance. For context, that is about 20 cars deep in the drive-through! I thought, “damn I am gonna have to go out of my way to the other location.” Well, upon arrival I only saw about 6 cars in the drive-through! I was in and then on my way out in a snap, bag in hand.
It came to me immediately after seeing the line so short, this was the road less traveled hence fewer people in line. I immediately started thinking about life. How often do you take the road less traveled? This question is paramount in modernity where the path most traveled is going along to get along. We live in a society of conformity. Yes, where collectivism trumps your individual rights.
Whether it is relationships, your health, or a number of factors the road less traveled is where you want to be. Societal “norms” have thrown good people off their squares. I know too many that used to go the long way around to accomplish something or do what was right. So many now choose to do some jacked-up shit because it’s a shortcut or it makes them feel better in the moment. Well, doing something the easy way will probably make you feel better in the short term. What are the long-lasting effects of having done that? Shame, guilt, sorrow?
Friends don’t let the world derail your good intentions. Stick to what you believe, even if it goes against the grain. I know personally in relation to fitness I have taken the road less traveled because I knew that the “worn” path was fraught with stagnation. So many spinning their wheels, staying right where they had always been.
When it comes to relationships, I would say the road less traveled can be even more rewarding. It is tough, it can be bumpy, but you can make it all the way through to the end. So many today are zoned out on social media entertaining false realities, living to work instead of working to live, brainwashed by the world’s conformities. These are the distractions that knock you off balance, giving you a sense of false identity. Don’t fall for it. It’s a fraud to sell you something you don’t need or want. It’s what sets you on the permanent road well-traveled. You become another child of the world, an automaton with no means to its’ end.
I hope this gave you some food for thought. I mean it was McDonald’s that gave me literal food for thought this very night! An idea for posting can come out of the strangest of situations when we least expect it. Analogies aside, the road less traveled will still get you to where you’re going even if it is out of the way. The comfort in knowing you didn’t waste your time or a loved ones is true solace. Please consider when making a decision, to take the road less traveled.
Well said! Conforming to societal norms and every worldly thing around us isn’t the answer. The answer is truly finding the difficult path so that we can stay out of our comfort zones and be better people to each other!
