I wanted this first post to be something very close to my heart. From a young age I loved sports. Really any kind of physicality relating to participation in sports to be exact. What I learned very quickly was that you needed to be fit in order to excel at any sport. I took this serious as I wanted to be an asset to my team rather than a detriment. I started proper training when I was in junior high around 14 years of age or so. This continued on throughout my life to this day.
I continued my interest in health and fitness and worked in the industry as a manager and trainer up till the pandemic. As you can imagine, it all but decimated an industry based on touching things and close communication. That aside, the point I’m making is this subject is what I know more than anything. I’ve seen it all, spending the better part of two decades in the health and fitness field.
What I’ve seen too many times, is people quitting their fitness journey before it even starts. I’ve also seen many married men and women get very comfortable and completely lose their fitness just because they already found a mate. This isn’t fair to either party might I add. It’s not okay to physically transform into someone else after marriage. Does your spouse have a wandering eye? This is definitely one reason for the case of the wandering eye amongst many others which we will get to in other posts!
The one question I always asked when a new client would come to me is the following; “If you don’t have your health, what exactly do you have?“ After thinking for a moment I usually got a blank stare with no answer. Well, what you have is nothing! You can’t go to work, you can’t go be active, you are asking for health problems that may affect you and those around you for the rest of your life. Who loves hospital bills? Let’s not forget that is what shows up when you neglect your health.
It really exemplifies a flawed thinking that people will stay healthy going through life eating whatever they want. This is a fantasy. It’s not reality. Men for thousands of years had been at the top of the food chain, and the epitome of a protector. Obviously, that was the past.
It’s never too late to start or in the case of some, restart your journey back to being fit. This is how we take care of ourselves and those around us. Without your health you have nothing. The side effect of working out is that you’ll look and feel better. Looking better should not be the driving force for starting back on a program! That is just a bonus. The goal is longevity and functionality. I’ve seen plenty of people who looked damn good that felt like shit from too many drugs! We will cover that in future posts I promise.
I hope this has given you food for thought and awakened your spirit for health.
In the future, I will have many posts debunking many myths, and perceptions of getting healthy. For now, I will give you what I believe is a percentage-based system to eliminate 99.9% of most problems concerning your health.
25% resistance training
25% cardiovascular training
25% what you consume (eat)
25% rest (sleep)
Heed these numbers, and start doing something physical other than going to work! No more excuses, just solutions! I look forward to focusing on health and fitness-related content in the near future to follow up on this post. Till next time!
